Since he did not have much higher education, he got a low-level job in the Prefecture of Police. It was this event that paved the way for his historic creation – bertillonage/ the Bertillon system/ Anthropometry. Bertillon may have been difficult as a child, but was an orderly person.
He found the methods used by the police to identify criminals rather inaccurate and unsystematic. These methods consisted of using photographs and seeking help from eyewitnesses. He had been a member of the Society of Anthropology (Remember, his father was an anthropologist too.) and hence, knew a thing or two about the human body.
